What Is Long-Term Care Insurance?

Long-term care insurance is purchased to help cover costs related to:

  • Assisted living
  • Nursing homes
  • Home health care
  • Adult day care facilities
  • Other services related to the care of seniors

How Is Coverage of Long-Term Insurance Triggered?

Coverage is triggered when the insured individual is not able to perform at least two of six activities of daily living without the assistance of another person. Coverage can also be triggered if a determination is made from a medical standpoint that the insured is a danger to themselves or others due to a mental condition or cognitive decline.

Our Los Angeles long-term care insurance attorneys can help you submit your LTC claim. Call The Disability Specialists today at (818) 495-8298 or fill out our online contact form to schedule a free consultation and get started today.

Most insurance companies require that the assisted living facility or nursing home chosen to provide long-term care meet their criteria for the eligible care provider.

In most cases, the long-term care insurance policy will require that the facility have the appropriate personnel and care, in addition to a specific license. If the facility chosen does not meet your insurance company’s criteria, your claim is likely to be denied.

What Are the Six Basic Activities of Daily Living?

LTC policies require that in order for a person to be covered, they must be medically proven to be unable to perform at least two of the six basic Activities of Daily Living. These activities include:

  • Eating
  • Bathing
  • Dressing
  • Toileting
  • Mobility
  • Personal hygiene

Is A Plan of Care Required for a LTC Claim?

Most insurance companies will require that insured present a written Plan of Care when filing a long-term care insurance claim. If a Plan of Care is not provided the claim will most likely get denied.

However, having a Plan of Care does not mean that you will be automatically approved. If the Plan of Care is not well written, the insurance company may disregard it and deny your claim.

The process of submitting a LTC claim can be overwhelming, especially when dealing with a medical condition or cognitive difficulties. An experienced insurance benefit attorney can be of great help in assisting you to complete this process quickly and efficiently.
